This building, one of my favorites in Chicago now houses the Burnham Hotel named after Daniel Burnham, the architect. Completed in 1890, the Reliance Building paved the way for the modern skyscraper. It was one of the first to use a steel skeleton (which allowed much larger windows than typical construction of its day). See this article for more.
